How many people decorate for the Christmas holiday with a tree, lights, knick-knacks, wreath, etc.?
My husband and I are a child-free couple and we know of a few other child-free couples who either do not decorate their house for Christmas or do just a bare minimum.
We, alright I, find that putting up a tree, trimming the halls with everything, lights, a wreath and all the rest of it are very time consuming. So I put out a couple of table runners, a mantle cover, and a few Christmas themed items, and of course our stockings (including one for our dog whom we call our spiritual child) and hubby puts up lights.
Recently a co-worker with two toddlers under the age of three, expressed to me that she thought that everyone, child-free or not, should put up ALL the Christmas stuff.
If we still get the feeling of Christmas without the tree isn't that what matters? Not the tree, the wreath and knickknacks in every room of the house??
Last year when I lived alone in a one bedroom apt I didn't put up anything for Christmas mostly because I wasn't home much. This year my fiance and I are living together and we have a 6 foot tree from walmart with only a few ornaments, a few xmas knick knacks, and our stockings. I don't think anyone should put up all the xmas stuff unless they want to. I personally don't think i would go all out with lights, tree, wreath, and the whole nine yards because as you said it is time consuming. All of those things also take up a lot of space when they are just useless items the other 12 months of the year. As long as you're happy with the amount of xmas in your home that's all that should be important. Christmas spirit isn't about decorations anyway.
